USA and CA bikes have different serial number sequences. The four character character codes showing year and model just before the six digit serial number are different. They are different bikes.
I wouldn’t make any assumptions based on the serial numbers. We won’t know what shipped unless Yamaha coughs it up, or already coughed it up somewhere. 2018 ES in my garage.
Based on the last four digits that would make my 2019 FJR # 792. Mfg date is 11-18. Makes me wonder how much of a market there is for not just the FJR but sportourers in general
The other forums have repositories of technical data on the FJR. Quite extensive ones. Perhaps someone here could sticky something to track the end of serials. It wouldn’t come anywhere near Being a definitive indicator of production, but it’d give us an idea.
There are four sets of FJR serial numbers: USA "A" and "ES"s and CA "A" and "ES"s.
Tell you what: Everyone with a 2018 FJR, please start sending in your VINs (omitting the last four numbers) until I have at least one sample of the four types and I will try to unravel the VDS section (characters four through eight).
