Roadside Power Install... can anyone help me out?

My girlfriend and I are flying out to Tulsa next week to pick up my almost new '06 FJR1300A. It's going to be a long ride back to Stockton, and mostly we'll be taking our time, but we're on a pretty tight schedule at first as we'll be meeting some friends over in Vegas.

I bought a ton of stuff that I'd like to wire to the 12v bike power as soon and as quickly as possible for the ride. I'd like to perform these procedures fairly quickly in the airport parking lot if I can.

Basically I'll initially need to hardwire 1-2 devices to the bike power supply:

(A) Starcom1 Intercom
(B) Escort 8500 x50 Radar Detector (This could be wired to a cigarette jack for now if it proves easier)

I'll also need to set up 1-2 cigarette lighter jacks for:

(A) Ipod
(B) GPS
(C) Cell Phones
(D) Escort 8500

I may mount the radar detector on the windshield, but more than likely for now I'll just arrange it in the tank bag with the rest of this stuff. I got some great ideas from this guy's projects:

www.gunsmoke.com/motorcycling/reviews/tankbags/sound1/index.html

www.gunsmoke.com/motorcycling/reviews/tankbags/sound2/index.html

So what I'm asking is there a quick, good way to do this? Are there any stock power outlets on the bike already that I can just buy adapters or cables for? I know that long term I'll have to install a power distribution block like some I've seen on the forums. I'd like to do as much prep work at home as I can so that when we get there my girl won't be snickering and looking at her watch for too long.

Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated, from the complex, pre-prepared, solid, quick install to the throwing money out the window buying pre-made adapters for this and that kind of install that I'll want to redo when I get home.

Thanks!!!

06 Power Point

From what I have read there is a power outlet in the glove box on the 06. If this is the case. I would power up the tank bag from that. You could connect all your toys ready in the tank bag and then you only have one lead to run to the glove box :ale:

There is a 12v power outlet socket in the glove box on the 06. To get it out to the tank bag though you'll need to bring a lead out of the glove box by either putting a small hole leading up into the dash or leave the glove box lid open which isn't very practical on the move.
I've installed another 'Hellia' socket on the right side fairing panel (black) directly above the battery location. This is so easy to fit and connect up now, its no longer difficult to access the battery, two minutes and your in, fuse in line, small hole for the socket or leave it loose until you get home and you'll have the option then to run power leads from the left or right hand side of the bike depending on what suites you best.

Good luck.

Further to what novawing said, the power outlet in the glove box is a cigarette lighter type. It is switched with the ignition, and is fused with a 3 amp fuse in the fuse block under the right hand side panel near the battery. If you were to use a fairly thin power cord, you should be able to close the glove box lid over the wire. Everything is made out of plastic and shouldn't cause any shorts in the wire.

There is a hole on the bottom of the glove box to route the wires thru. So, no need to close the lid on the wires and take a chance to damage the fragile lock mechanism.

power outlets

I have just installed some new power outlets from POWERLET.

www.powerletproducts.com

They just put together the componets, and kits should be available within a week. For powering anything from gps to heated jacketliners this is the way to go. You can also buy an adapter to plug in a battery charger into one of their outlets to keep your battery fully charged. Don't buy a great bike and farkle it with inferior products, use the proper equipment. This will save you grieve and aggravation in the long run.

Zac, you need to PM Kieth from this board. He owns a truck dealership but as a side line business he sells and installs electronic goodies for the FJR. He may have some great ideas for you. And knowing Kieth there would be no point in messing with stuff in the airport parking lot. I'm sure he wouldn't mind you coming to his shop to get everything set up. It would be much more convenient. He's 20 min from the airport in the direction you'll be going. He's right off the interstate.
