I find the fork valving to be ok. Not great but not awful either. You can definitely ride the bike hard and fast with a quality rear shock and good fork springs with the stock valving.

I wouldn't worry too much about brand, but I'd kinda stick to better known... all are rebuildable easy enough, most seals, etc. are universal.... no firm schedule on refresh needed. Some will tell you every 20k, others have gone 80k... as long as it ain't leaked out and you haven't noticed damping softening, I say ride it. My RaceTech was OK at 40k, resprung it and refreshed then (the spring was too hard, I'd had enough).

A couple of months ago I bought a used Penske 8987 shock for $300 sent it to Traxxion for a complete rebuild to me for $350 so for $650 I got a $1,500 shock. My 2013 had 50k miles on it at the time so I installed Andriani Misano fork cartridges and now my bike rides like a dream. The Andriani were also built to my specs so only changes have been to the dampening. Andrani cartridges were $600 shipped to me.

I'll have either sprung for my riding weight but am interested in your comments. These are the only 2 I'm considering so please don't add re different shocks. TIA

I've put Penske's on a MT-10 & Gen 2 FZ-1 with good results. I'm after a more compliant ride as I've rods in lumbar area of my back. Will be ordering fork springs tomorrow from Traxxion for a 19A I just found.

So wait... what am I missing?!? You can get new Ohlins or Penske at cost but bought an Ohlins w/25k on it and going to send it in for "service and possible spring replacement" . I just don't comprehend!?! How is that saving any money?

I guess I shouldn't read through the entire thread and only be looking at the last postings.

mattemike got a good deal, he's way ahead even with the rebuild and new spring tailored to him.

Thanks Ray! I must add that price isn't my only consideration when buying. Later today gonna call Cogent Dynamics re my service needs. Have always used Traxxion before so am pleased to begin a journey down another path.

mattemike, we've all heard "gotta rebuild the shock every xxx miles"... 25k is nothing, I'd let that ride a bit longer unless you really need that spring, then goferit. If it ain't leaking (no loss of damping) it's OK.
If there's a number printed on the spring, you can cross-ref that to see what spring rate it is (usually).
