stickers/wrap to hide damage?

I have an '06.
I once tried to make a really low-speed u-turn on some loose gravel and put her down at maybe 5mph...but with the gravel and speed...still scratched her up pretty good.
THEN...I lost a saddlebag on the road....other side...more scratches.

Anyways...I would like to clean up the appearance some...Seems like I have 4 choices.
1...New paint. Pricey...and I live on gravel and dirt road....doesn't seem worth it to me...
2...sticker it up with places I have been (ala what I see on a lot of the adventure touring bikes)...doable and cheap...but gaudy as well.
3...take it to a vehicle wrap guy and have him do some kind of graphics package that would cover the worst areas (kind of leaning this way...thinking something reflective?)
4...Do nothing...
4.5...trade it in a year or two for an adventure touring which is more likely something I should be riding for where I live. hahaha.

Unrivet the saddlebag lids and send them (or more) to Garauld... send him a PM. Have you got sliders or crash bars?

I recently heard of a guy who had one of those companies who install truck bed coating coat his luggage in black. It didn't look bad and it was fairly cheap. I called the local company and asked them if they also did this and he said he did. I will try to find the post if you are at all interested.

Trouble with a wrap is it still needs to go on a good surface. How deep are the scratches? They would have to be sanded and possibly filled.

Remove the damaged panels, repair the scratches (fill, sand repeat), and repaint it yourself.

While painting is a bit of a black-art, itís something the average handy-person can learn with practice and patience. The paint on the FJR is nothing special - if you put in some time and effort you will be able to get a really good result.

And the end result will be cheaper than either having someone else do it, or paying to get it wrapped (which wonít be your friend at resale time)

Cheers,

Anthony

mcompton1973,

You can get truck bed liner in spray cans, in various colors and textures.
Make some test panels, see what type you like, and try it. It's tough stuff.
If you have another mishap later, that stuff is easy to touch up.
If you get a professional repaint, add fall bars to protect the good work.

If it's just saddlebags, perhaps find a used set for a 2012 or 2016, all you need is the lids. Then talk to me about your old lids....
If you need fairings, likely worth stripping the plastic off and getting the whole shebang repainted somewhere locally..... it might look good in burnt sienna! Or 2014 Root Beer, it is after all the fastest colour.
