I have a Gen 3 2018 a model, and do NOT have bar riser. I have my tubes slid up 3/8". There isn't much room between adjuster and handle bars. I also have the bars in the most rearward position.

Can't say I feel a lot of difference from stock. I also wear the waffle stompers. At 5'6' and a short inseam (depending on how you measure it if not going by jean sizes 36x2 I don't have the most secure feeling when stopped. Considering some lowering links to match the front and maybe having the seat shaved 1/2". I really don't want to tighten up the knee bend any more.

When my wife is pillion I reach a lot better. Maybe I should just stick a seat bag with 150# of stuffing in it on the back seat when riding solo lol..

Ferret, the A model has progressive springs and I see you have your preload not dialed in at all.... if I could suggest gettting your 17mm wrench out and dial that down to 3 bars showing. Still on the soft side... and you can then move your forks up a tad more if you like (each bar is 5 mm). Part of the spring is 0.85 spring rate, the other part is 1.0.

@RaYzerman While not a seat issue, what's you take on how many rings should be showing as a default setting?

I used to think I probably knew what I was doing. Now I know I probably know what I'm doing. Which doesn't say I always knew what I was doing or always know what I'm doing. You know what I'm saying?

Here you go...everything you want to know about the five preferred/default settings of the A model.

https://www.fjrowners.com/forums/8-f...ettings-3.html (see the last post, #29 of 29)

To save you a click, this is the breakdown of the survey of owners that I conducted:

Front pre-load: 2 lines with 31.58% of the vote. Next was 3 lines with 26.32%. The others were considerably less, with the nearest one(s) at 13.16% (1-line and 4-line, tied).

Front rebound damping: 7 - 8 clicks with 28.95% of the vote. Next was 5 -6 clicks with 18.42%.

Front compression damping: 7 - 8 clicks with 28.95%. It was close, though...next was 9 - 10 clicks with 26.32% and 11 - 12 clicks next with 23.68%.

Rear rebound damping: 5 -6 clicks with 26.32%. Next was 11 - 12 clicks with 21.05%.

Rear spring preload: Soft with 65.79%. Hard was (obviously, given there are only two choices) 34.21%.

Great thanks!

Oops, forgot to ask - how much of this carries over to the ES?

None. Maybe the rear spring preload...not sure if there’s a manual lever or not on the ES, though I tend to doubt it. All these settings are otherwise electronically adjusted, no manual adjustment like the A model.

I would add that all those “clicks” are from full in correct ?

Ferret, have you taken the plastic spacer out from under the seat yet ? Personally I forgot about that thing, but i’d Still like to know what the actual purpose of that spacer is, is it just another item for adjustment or does it actually serve some real purpose ?

I've never had the seat off lol. There's a plastic thing in there? My dealer told me the seat was in it's lowest position. doesn't look to be much room between bottom of seat and plastic side covers.
