Stem Mount for Ram Ball - Ram Kit or TechMount?

I've searched in the forum for this topic, with no success. If this topic has been addressed in another thread, my apologies for my poor search skills …
I am wanting to mount a RAM ball on the stem nut of my FJR. I have found two approaches (if there are more, please post info) … one involving a RAM kit (https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-342U) as described in a YouTube video (
) and the other involving a modification of the TechMount product, as described in a different YouTube video (
).

I will welcome any and all comments, recommendations. Thank you!

My preference is one in the unused hole in the left bar, one on the helis in the middle, and one on the right bar from ram. If I didn’t have helis, I’d run a rambone. I wouldn’t use an xgrip under any circumstance.

Thanks Bill. I'm not familiar with a "rambone", but will do some Google-ing. I only want one mount, in the centre.
Thanks again!

Your only option for a stem mount is the Techmount...The rammount is not compatible with the Yamaha center stem.

You will also need to swap out the 17mm ball on the Techmount for a 1' ball if you want to use a standard ram arm.

Ram mount ball

I purchased a ram mount ball with a 5/16 x 14 tpi stud on it for $7.95. I removed my centre nut and drilled and tapped and screwed the ball on with a little blue loctite and all good for 8 bucks.

I can't answer your question directly but you need to be aware of potential stem mount and helibars issues if you plan on running them both. If the ball is down low, the helibars bring the bars back enough to be in the way of large accessories like a gps. My Garmin will snap directly onto the techmount ball but the GPS does bump into the bars. Not an issue prior to installing the helis. If I moved to a larger gps (mine is a 4 inch), it wouldn't clear the bars. The picture in the second video you show may have the same problem with helis. The ball seems really low and will sit right between the bars.

The techmount TechGripper that attaches to the stem mount clears everything without an issue because it comes up really high.

If you want pictures let me know. It's rather hard to explain but just be cautious if you're running helis.

I installed the MV Mottorad (MV Vernolen) riser / pull back plate, that came with the "RAM style" ball installed, so that would be one way to get better handlebar setup and RAM ball at the same time.

And of course there is an unused tread hole on clutch lever, that I used to install another RAM ball for my RAM smartphone Xgrip.

I drilled through the centre of the stem nut and fitted one of these... (Ram Mount 1in Track Ball With T-Bolt Attachment
RAP-B-354-TRA1) it fits inside of the nut.. cost me £7.00 simple..its been rock solid for the last 12k on all types of road around Europe.

There's a nice simple option that mounts on the cap of the brake or clutch fluid reservoir.

I have a ram mount on each reservoir and one on the center stem nut. On the center stem nut I attach an xgrip to hold my phone. Very convenient and secure. My center stem nut has a 1" ram ball tapped into the top. All this was installed by the previous owner and I am glad he did. Good luck.
