2016-17 FJR Technical Notes

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but here is page 1 of the 7 page technical notes that have been put out by Yamaha, concerning certain models of our favorite motorcycle.
This is specifically addressing the Side Stand Switch Fault Code P1601.
Some of you guys ran across this while others have not.
But this should be done for free at your local Yamaha dealer.
If you have not heard of it till now... don't despair.... It is very hard to find this info on-line.

I'm going to send this to my friend who just got a '16.

I see them address the issue, but no mention of the fix. Is there an ECU flash to be done or something?

Or is the fix to just consistently turn the key all way way without a delay?

The fix is an ECU flash, which must be done by the dealer's proprietary Yamaha computer. For those with '16's and up, one can no longer go into diagnostics as in prior models, but one can buy an OBD2 adapter harness to hook up to your OBD2 reader and then can look at diagnostic codes and clear them.

Standardization of MC diagnostic software is a great thing. Some day they will do the same with outboard EFI and thousands of mechanic shops will celebrate.

Do you need to be able to reproduce the problem in order to have Yamaha fix it?

No, this is in fact a factory recall if you will, but is a Technical Notification, and therefor treated differently.
Take your FJR to a dealer and they should be able to perform a a re-flash of the ECU, which will correct several problems.

If someone doesn't get it posted first, I will try and get the full notification posted shortly.

The temporary fix on the last paragraph says to turn the key quickly, not slowly. So.. Mama Yama says start it like your stealing it!

OK... I have it. The full 7 page Technical Notes on the FJR reflash - for 2016-17 FJR1300's.

Its in a pdf file to large to post on this forum... but I can mail it to anyone that's interested in having the full 7 pages.

Not too much information is given other than instructions for the techs to upload the ECU. The first page says it all.

If anyone wants the 302 kb pdf file.... Please pm me. and I will send it out.

Otherwise... Anyone have the ability to upload this Technical Note to a server? Post it to the internet, so that all can access it?

My local Yamaha dealer did mine when they did my 4K mile service. I said I'd not had any issues and they told me they need to do it anyway.
