LOL LOL
Just answered the same question 1/2 hour ago on this Forum.
Cut and paste.

Sorry you can not, Yamahahaha dropped the ability to run diagnostics via the dash, barstewards.

In their infinite wisdom, they can make nearly $1000 AUD more selling a test lead and hand test tool.
A lot of dealers haven't the ability to perform diagnostics yet on the 2016's, no leads/tools.

Ya stuffed, off to visit a Stealer, a warranty job.

And resetting by battery disconnect will not work.
And their so call OBD2 is proprietary so a scanner will be useless.

Sorry
Cheers

The condition will not cure itself..... plenty of discussion on FJRForum. You must take it to your dealer for a warranty claim and get the thing cleared. It may come back...... Yammy is working on a fix.
The bike will work fine except you may lose some ES or cruise functions until you take it in.

I was led to this information. The 2016 fjr has a CONNECTOR that is OBD communication. I ordered a cable $30 and a normal OBDII $50 tester. I can read and clear the CEL code P1601.
The code is SET my trying to start the fjr with the KEY NOT completely at the ON position. The manual says P1601 is a side stand error. NOT in this case.
This is confirmed by others also.

Times like these is when being a member of the other forum has its advantages. Whether you agree with the running of it or not, whether you actually post there or not is irrelevant, the other playground is way more technogeeky in many ways.

Start with this thread, post #63 on.

On the 2016's+, the connector is located under the primary seat. You have to buy a cable to be able to read it with an OBD scanner. Based on your response, I'm not sure your located in the U.S. otherwise I would provide you a link to purchase the cable...
