Do I Really Have To Change My Oil Every Year?

Quote:
Dear MOby,

I just saw your answer regards oil change. My manual says that I need to change oil every 3000 miles. But I only ride about 1000 miles per year (very short commute). By the book, I need to perform oil change every three years. Do I really need to change oil every year? Is it okay to change oil every three years, just because I donít ride that much?

Thank you
Jay

PS: Just to make myself comfortable, I do oil change once a year.

I couldn't be trucked reading the waffle on an oil thread.

I'm curious.

Anyone have a definitive yes or no answer.

Might only help two people, the OP and me (-:

Answer here ---> Answer

I'd be curious to know if anyone other than you and I read the article.

I'm in the change-it-annually camp. But if I rode less than a couple of thousand miles a year I'd probably go back to a conventional oil that meets the specs called for in my manual.

Just keepin' up with traffic, Officer.

Not sure if this a "troll" thread or not. Since I turned 70 I am officially crotchety and have no remorse about what I am about to say. If you can't figure this question out on your own without going into a motorcycle forum, maybe, just maybe your should never, ever even contemplate DIY maintenance.

Just something to think about. 1000 miles per year. That is maybe 4 miles per day on a commute. Tires would have to be replaced somewhere between 6 and 10 years. It would be over 20 years for a major service check. So two possibilities come to mind:
1. Buy a bicycle.
2. Consider the FJR a throw away. Add gas, check the tire pressure, look at the oil sight window and top off if necessary. Then ride it till it breaks which since it is an FJR I would bet it never will do.
