Invitation to ride Colorado in the Spring

So, yeah, I've posted a number of beautiful rides in my area in the "Touring Tales" section and it just hit me today "Why not try to organize a group of FJR folks to come out in the spring for a few days of incredible riding together??"

So that's what this is. Plenty of time to plan ahead. I'm on the "Western Slope" of CO, an hour south of Grand Junction. Within an hour or less is Telluride, the Gateway Canyon, Silverton, Durango, the Black Canyon, the Grand Mesa, and about 3 hours away is Moab, UT, as well as Monarch Pass and McClure pass (close to 11,000' elevation).

May is a gorgeous time of year to be riding out here. If you think you're interested, we can plan something and get a group out here for a few days of riding thru the mountains. Right across from where I live is an RV park that rents cabins and of course there are cheap motel rooms and KOA Kampgrounds in the area. Everyone could pull in on, oh, say a Thursday and then we ride maybe Friday through Monday. People can leave earlier if they must.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE SEND ME A PVT MSG VIA THIS SITE WITH YOUR NAME AND E-MAIL ADDRESS AND I'LL BEGIN CREATING A MAILING LIST TO KEEP EVERYONE UP-TO-DATE. Thanks!

Oh, and here are some samples of what you'll see and ride thru.

I may be interested. I just completed a ride out your way. We trailered the bikes to Fort Collins and rode in CO, AZ, UT, NV, and CA for about 10 days. It was my first ride out west and what an awesome ride it was! Can't wait to head out that way again. At times we were in some pretty rough heat so I would think May would be a great time to go. It's a long trip for me (from North Carolina) so I'd probably want to ride at least 5 days to make it worth my while. Let's keep in touch.

I've always wanted to ride that park of the state's as I've done pretty much the entire eastern coast of North America.
I'm definitely interested depending on dates.

Thanks guys. I will definitely organize it. I am more than happy to do that. I've already had about three or four people say they're interested and I suspect we'll have plenty more between now and next spring. I'll need to get together a mailing list of those who are interested and send out information on planned dates, available accommodations, and some planned rides. Let's do it!

Interested in this, have done this ride a few times but it never fails to impress. In the early stages of planning next years ride hoping to get to cali this time but will be starting in Denver so could probably take a couple days on this.

well, heck, it would be hard for me NOT to come over and join the crowd. Might be a change of pace from the group of BMW's that I rode with earlier this summer.

Count me in... I have been seeking an opportunity to head up that way for some time now.
Work and stuff always seems to delay plans.. but this could work out.
Maybe we will see some of the NEW 17' FJR's in this group....?

So are you near Montrose? I would need to fly my wife in and have her meet me down there. Just couldn't pack enough on the FJR for both of us and she is not nearly as comfortable for long days as she was on the Goldwing. It would take me two 10 hour days to get there and come May around me I wouldn't of had a lot of saddle time in yet to break in the old body because of our weather...

I am, indeed. I actually live just south of Montrose.
We're on a couple of acres and those who would want to pitch a tent are welcome to do so on our property.
Those who want a roof over their heads, the Jellystone RV park is right across the street from us with nice cabins, and Montrose is 10 minutes away with a ton of very affordable places to stay.

I ask anyone who is even vaguely interested to send me a private message with your e-mail address. Over the winter I'll work up a mailing list and send out info so we can plan. When you message me, let me know what dates work best for you.

Thanks, everyone!
