Death Valley trip

I finally got around to posting this after a ride to Death Valley a few weeks ago. The roads there are unbelievable! Smooth, perfectly banked, twisty, no traffic, sunny, and incredible scenery. This was my first time there, and I was amazed to find that it is motorcycling paradise! Here are a couple of shots of my FJR. (Bags and luggage are back at the campsite)

Been there... put it on the list.

I've been lucky enough to have gone through Death Valley NP several times on both dual sport and street bikes. It's awe inspiring as the scale of the place is just huge and speed is your friend. ( Not many po po there) That road that runs from north to south up through Badwater basin is dozens of miles of fast paced sweepers. It might be in my top 10. The road up to Dante's view is great as well. There are many dual sport roads like Titus canyon that are incredible. I'm a national park freak and Death Valley is not to be over-looked.

I recall that the roads were pretty torn up from flooding a short while ago. I suspect you experienced the new replacement surfaces. I was once stationed at the Army's National Training Center at Fort Irwin, 100 miles or so due south of DV. Used to go camping in DV in the fall months.

Nice! I need to get out in that area some day. What tail bag are you using?

The tail bag is from OGIO. It works really well for this bike: it attaches to the rear seat portion and can be popped off easily. It can expand to hold cold weather or rain gear. Has handy side pouches. The only issue is that if you leave it on the bike there is no security because the entire thing can be just popped off in 10 seconds. For unattended parking I put a carabiner lock around the bag handle and tail section grab bar.

Thanks for sharing those very nice photos. I finally got to ride there this past September. I stayed in Furnace Creek overnight. It's a fantastic place. I can't wait to do it again.

I thought about doing the Badwater Ultramarathon but age and wisdom intervened, I think I'll stick with riding through it someday.
