Better Radar Detector, looking for thoughts.

Hello all,

On my motorcycle I've used the Cobra iRadar (iRad 200 & iRad 900) for about 5 years now and it has served me well. It's also important to me that my music, GPS, and radar alerts are sent through my bluetooth headset, which I can do with the iRadar app.

Unfortunately, with the Cobra detecting all the new avoidance systems in cars, its usefulness has decreased significantly.

So, I was wondering, what are other people using for radar detection, does it block false alerts for car avoidance systems, and are alerts being sent via bluetooth?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts !

If anyone is interested: I have the radar detector mounted with a Ram Mount Motorcycle Brake/Clutch Reservoir Base, a Ram X-grip, and some industrial velco. Power is coming from the 12volt accessory outlet. The radar is then paired with my iPhone, which I connect via bluetooth to a SENA 20S to listen to music and get alerts.

Hi I run a good one, but it's basically useless now, lol.
Most here are advance LASER now, the detector only tells you you just had a picture taken.

The good old UHF CB is still the best.
I have a SR10 with CB interface ( it also has 2 aux wired inputs),blue toothed to my Sena unit.

There are laser cameras now that can detect 6 cars at once, and burst a laser for a fraction of a second in one frame.
Only some regional areas have the old technology.

In trafficed areas, I use the programming mode on my V1 to lower the priority of X so car's fancy annoyances aren't as much of an issue.

Here in Ontario, we aren't allowed to use them. Having lost my 3rd one a few years back, I gave up trying to use them here. (That gets expensive). We are reduced to using the Waze app. It is crowd-sourced so, on the slab, it's pretty good. On secondary roads, which I ride 95% of the time, not so much. It is also useless against moving radar platforms.

I really wish we could use detectors/jammers here, but that will never happen in this nanny-state as the revenues are just too lucrative.

Thanks Bounce... I just looked at the V1 website (i hadn't heard of it before), looks like it could be a good alternative. Do the alerts get sent through the app? Thanks!

I'm running a pre-app model. It's been so good for so long and then adapting to the chuckleheads using X band for other things, that I've stuck with it and not upgraded.

Just a few random thoughts....and certainly not preachin'
Before I retired from the Washington State Patrol as an Electronic tech, I fixed the radars and Lasers....
That was 13 years ago so the technology could well have changed....

We had radars on mounts in the cars that could be used in moving and stationary mode. (I think they have forward and rear firing now) They could be left on or triggered on and off.
The hand held units were pretty much triggered on and off only. Then we got Lasers. They were cool cause you just look through the
optical site and put on crosshairs on the violator and pull the trigger. I could shoot semis 3/4 mile away.

Now they have about the same unit only it takes a picture as well as of the cross hairs and the speed readout.....

(The most fun was listening to my patrol radio in my patrol Suburban as the aircraft called out the speeds of the violators to the hidden troops lined up by the side of the road.....)

The point is, and I think you know this....is that the days when you could count on a detector to save you are gone. Have I ever went over the speed limit on some rural western roads where you could see for ever? Sure. And I bet many here have also. Speeding is a choice. If I get caught, I would pay the fine. I havent gotten a ticket yet, and no, I have never had to show my badge to an LEO to beat a ticket.

Just remember that a detector can not tell you in the year 2017 if there is an LEO nearby or not.....and do NOT go over the speed limit in Jordan Valley, Oregon. I go through there once a year and I was warned about how they suppliment their income....

I have an Escort that I use on occasion. It is still helpful since many places still use radar, because not everyone has a detector. In general though I found that the most effective way to not get a ticket is to not do more than 7 over.

My Valentine 1 is the best. I love to be driving along and have it go off with its distinct sound and have a car pass me and then see that car up the road getting a ticket.
