Need more seating comfort

Hello to all,

Haven't visited this forum in a long time but I'm sure glad to be back. I ride a 2015 FJR......mostly on weekends in the western NC mountains. I'm headed out on a west coast trip with some friends next month and I know I'm going to need something more comfortable to sit on (my arse starts bugging me after about 100 miles). I'm told we'll be riding 300-450 miles/day so I'm starting to get a little worried. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've looked at Airhawk seat cushions but I'm not sure how well they work or what size to get. I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks so much!

I have the exact same setup as MetrickMetal and it is absolutely fabulous, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

In a pinch, the Airhawk R works well, I ran with that for a couple of years and many long days in the saddle with very good comfort.

He needs something in a month. Unless you are going to loan the OP your seat, a Lamm is not an option.

You never know until you contact Seth. He may be able to fit in a seat order in time.

This ^^^

The only caveat is that if your expected daily mileage is unlikely to exceed around 400 miles, there are various options that will work.

However, if you plan longer distances, there really is n substitute for the Russell, for most riders.

Mine has now covered around 80 000 miles. It is desperately in need of a rebuild and new cover ... and it is as comfortable as ever, even for multiple 1000+ mile days.

Need more seating comfort

NCpkwyrider,

Are you riding solo, or two-up? By all accounts, you can't top a Russel Day Long seat for comfort. You can get a front seat, or both seats, if needed. You will need a Gen2~Gen3 seat. The RDL and Laam seats are customs, built to carry the rider's weight. If you find a used custom seat, the seller should tell you what weight it is built to carry.

You can set up the Retail "Bikes and Parts For Sale -USA" forum here to notify you by email when any new ad appears. You can do the same on the "other" forum,
http://www.fjrforum.com

These fine seats usually do not stay posted very long, before somebody buys it. If you get an email for a seat, jump on it.

Cheers,
Red

I have a SeatConcepts rider seat. No passenger seat available:

Undoubtedly, it is not as good as a Russell or Laam, but it should be good enough for a series of 400 mile days. And if you find it unsatisfactory, you should be able to sell it without much loss.

Thanks for all your replies. I have a few questions:
MetrickMetal - how much did your custom Seth Laam cost?
Dan - I noticed there are several Airhawk R's. Which one did you buy for your FJR?
JohnC, any chance I can see a pic of your rider seat?
