Is there interest in arranging an opportunity for owners and pillions/partners to get together. Suggested dates are Sat 20 Sept or Sat 4 October. Possibly out west of Brisbane - maybe Mt Glorious or Wivenhoe Dam area. Laurie and Atlas, a chance possibly for your 'tentative' pillions to meet some others who do ride (Zea and Toowoomba's pillion, and maybe Mike and Mary can make it too), and some who don't (Rod's Michele, and Dave's Mary-Ellen). Those who don't ride can arrive by car.

Just a thought starter for someone to run with.

Sounds great. Ladies were happy with our trip up to Bunya Mtns. Great houses to rent for the night up there.

Hi All,

Count us in. However, would steer clear of good old Mt Glorious on a w/e, far too many boy racers and boys in blue.

I did a nice solo ride on the w/e similar to where we went on our last run., except on the way form the cuckoo place I turned to the damsand after getting very low on fuel

I turned back to Crows nest to get some. Some nice twisty stuff and I aslo made a pitstop at the pub T'wba spoke of, very nice, would be great spot for lunch and a chat.

The piece in between Esk & T'wba I though was also good. Makes it hard when we are all spread out as we are, but last time I rode to beuadesert first, could I enjoy riding, so its no big deal where we kick off from.

Another thought maybe down Lions rd end.... Ifound a few weeks ago but was too late to actually go on it....

What say ye ??

Cheers,

Atlas

Hi All,

I'll certainly talk to Denise about it. I'd be keen for her to come along. I know she would enjoy meeting you all. Whether I can get her on the bike is another thing. The 20th Sept. would be out for us, we unfortunately have something on.

Cheers, Laurie

ps By the way AMCN had the sales figures in the current edition. The FJR1300 killed the Tourer section with 132 sales for the year against 53 for both ST1300 and BMW KL1200GT. Says it all!

David,
20th is out for me, but the 4th of October would be ok at this point...
Would have to agree that the Mt. Glorious and Nebo is the pits these days.. but a trip up to Maleny or through the Glasshouse region, with a stoppover would be a good thing to organise in the future..

regards,
Tryg

OK - Sat 4 October is the date. I had a venue/location in mind that will allow the non-pillions an easy drive to join us, but will also give the riders/pillions some twisty stuff so the ride there is fun. Laurie, Shaughan, Rod (and Dave) your ladies will be travelling by car, so maybe you guys work out the venue, or nominate one of you to do it. It seems that Mt Glorious/Nebo is out.

Part of the idea of the day is to let the non-pillions get to hear from the pillions what nice safe riders we all are, so they can be converted , and also put faces and names together when we get into boy/bike talk mode

David,

I knew thw 20th was out for me due to a committment I had but my wife has just reminded me that we are booked to go down the coast for the weekend on the 4th. I almost hate to tell you what we are doing but we're going to see Gene Pitney at Twin Towns.
We're quite dissappointed about not catching up because it's these sort of outings that will get Denise more happy about getting on the bike. She was also keen to meet everyone.
I was going to suggest going out through Dayboro, up over Mt. Mee, left to Woodford and then up to Maleny (the back way) for lunch . It's a nice ride and not all that far. Hopefully another time.

Cheers, Laurie

Hi Laurie

You'll only be 24 Hours from Tulsa and we'll be in Far Away Places I'll be Crying, but that's what A Town Without Pity can do (to you) Keep Telling Yourself that you're Not Responsible and we'll meet on the Trans Canada Highway

Here's something to look at anyway

David,

Not bad, not bad. That's a good site isn't it. we're looking forward to it, actually. Enjoy yourselves on the 4th. The Glasshouse area is a good ride though to keep in mind.
Cheers, Laurie

Hi all - back in town, and planning to ride. I am one of the lucky ones who has some Rugby World Cup Tickets, so am out of action for all weekends in October, but Zea and I will very likely be riding next Saturday morning 11 Oct. Possibly out to Mt Lindesay via Beaudesert. Short notice I know, but if anyone is interested in linking up lets see what we can arrange.

By David1300 on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 - 12:25 pm:  View David1300's Profile Search for other posts by David1300 Edit this post

Time to set another date - Saturday 1 November I am sure that Zea and I will be out riding. If anyone is interested in linking up, post interest here. Likely route is out Beaudesert/Boonah/Mt Lindesay way, but this can be changed if others are interested in joining up.

Bernie, we just spent a week over your side of the world, only in a rental car, unfortunately. There were some great roads south of Perth - I'll have to share the details later when I get home - can see us riding some of them sometime.

As regards the 4400k's - that's OK - we've got all day Sunday to get back

I couldn't even find yours on a map.

Bernie,

You need a map of the whole of Aus, not just the sandgroper side !! :-)

Having travelled the Mt Lindsey hyway many times, I have yet to actually come across the mountain itself, maybe its more of a hill than a mountain, thats why its not on the map ??

Cheers,

It's probably like a place I went through in North Queensland called Mt Surprise.
The surprise was no mountain, the country is as flat as a billiard table.

It's there, trust me, it's there. Piccie will follow:

Atlas, you can't miss it, provided you ride far enough. It's right at the border. Have a look here
See you there, Bernie
BTW - ours is 1177 metres high - how big is yours?

David, you win, our mount is only 459 metres high, but would you believe I recognised your Mt Lindesay immediately, I even have a photo of it, so there.

Bernie - I think yours is a hill . But then WA is pretty flat, so even a hill might look like a mountain . That piccie must be from the Gold Coast Ulysses AGM vintage, I would guess.

David1300!

The third and fith photo show weeds! These are not native WA plants, but introduced South African weeds.

Good Grief! WA has more flowering plant species than the rest of the world put together and you show a couple of South Aftican imports...

Shame David, SHAME!

Peter - thanks for the info. Strewth - South African weeds are as pretty as WA native widflowers - well, I'll be b*ggered. Can't say that I ever saw those in the 36 years I lived in Seth Efrica Mind you, the WA wildflowers, and the Cape wildflowers have many similarities, and many common (or should that be shared) species. Both regions also make good wine.

Maybe the locals should put up some signs that say: "These beautiful flowers are actually weeds" or "Ignore these beautiful colours, they are brought to you by weeds"

I guess it's a little like some of the Acacia and Gum tree species introduced to South Africa from Australia - to some, they look like beautiful and/or majestic trees; to others, they are suffocating the local trees and shrubs, and some imported species are (correctly) listed as noxious weeds!

Thanks again for the info.

The Queensland Mt Lindesay reminds me of that mountain in the movie "Close encounters of the third kind".
I would keep a close watch on David, or you may end up in a space ship with funny looking guys shoving needles into your eyeballs.

Atlas - I could get a reputation for being the great dis-organiser of everything I organise At very short notice Zea and my Daughter-in-law Jayne (from the UK) have to go to London, leaving this Thursday, so I will be riding solo on Saturday. Also, we are going to the Rugby World Cup match (South Africa v Samoa) at Suncorp 5:30 kickoff, and will be watching the earlier match on the big screen at South Bank while eating (maybe drinking) a late lunch - means I have to leave for Brissie around midday. With all that, I will just be doing a short blast locally on Saturday morning, so let's leave the organised ride for another weekend.

See you sometime soon.

David
