Saturday 30 August. Tentative route is: Beaudesert to Boonah to Amberley; back roads to Helidon, Murphys Creek, north to Hampton, east to Esk, back to Ipswich, and everyone heads home from there. Total distance from Beaudesert to Ipswich is approx 320k's, so add in your transit legs to get your total distance for the day. For me it will be another 60k's to Beaudesert in the morning, and 120k's home at the end of the day, making the total 500 for the day. Am happy to consider add-ins or other options.
If there is enough interest I'll post the ifo on the Tribe site, and also notify local dealers so they can let other FJR owners know. Whatever happens, I will be doing a 'Boys Day Out' ride that day.
Rod, can you let Dave know and tell him he is welcome.

Hi David,
Sounds good, right in my backyard !! Perhaps detour after Esk is in order for a BBQ lunch at my place ?? Be it a little later than usual for lunch ?? Just a thought. What time should we kick off ?? Would take about an hr for me to Beudesert from here. Maybe 8.30 for a 9am departure ??
Cheers,
Atlas

9:00 departure from Macca's at Beaudesert sounds good. We can have another pickup point at Macca's at Yamanto (just off the Cunningham Highway, on Warwick Rd in the Woolworths Shopping Centre) leaving there at 10:00am. This gives options for the early and late starters. Atlas, generous offer re lunch, but I suggest we discuss lunch details when we have an idea of numbers, and it may be an idea to leave lunch as a 'bought option', as numbers very rarely get confirmed prior to the event

Just got back from Perisher. Will try and join this ride and let Dave and Gary (non FJR riders) know too.
By Atlas on Monday, August 04, 2003 - 07:06 am:
Hi David,
Suppose you are right
I wll be there, if I get up early enough I am aiming for Beudesert, failing that, Yamanto.
I must admit at getiing confused with all the different threads now, and I have just found a whole heap of new ones...
May I suggest we name the ride threads by date ?? Just a thought for an oldfella
Cheers,
Atlas
By David1300 on Monday, August 04, 2003 - 12:24 pm:
Charles Atlas - only 2 threads to worry about:
Boys Day Out for the ride on Saturday 6 September, and
State of Origin Meet for the proposed SoO ride/weekend. Dates and venue still to be finalised.
By Atlas on Monday, August 04, 2003 - 01:03 pm:
Hi David,
Alright, you win. But I thought 6th Sep was in concrete for SOO ??
Cheers,
Atlas
By David1300 on Monday, August 04, 2003 - 01:30 pm:
Atlas - 6th Sept only in 'soft concrete' at this stage. I am probably going to do the run that weekend anyway (with Zea), if for no other reason than to check venues for the future. But going from the comments on that thread, it seems that there may be some merit in looking at a later date. See the new post on that thread. October and November do become a little hectic for me, with many weekends already out.
However - Boys Day Out on Saturday is in firm concrete for Saturday 30 August

Hi David,
If you decide to go anyway We may join you ? Like you the further down the year we go the more w/e's we lose to other things... LEts see what happens after the 30th ride.
Cheers,
Atlas

David and Atlas,
Should the SoO be postponed to a later date, Sue and I are almost certainly heading up to the proposed venue on the weekend of Sept 6/7 anyway, so hopefully we can have at least a small group meet.
By David1300 on Wednesday, August 06, 2003 - 01:51 am:
@Lmoro - Hi and welcome. Will be great to meet you and Denise, maybe on the Boys Day Out, or some other time. Ride safely. David
By Lmoro on Friday, August 08, 2003 - 01:10 pm:
Hi David,
Same here. I will definitely try to make that ride and meet you all. I've had my 03 ABS model for about 2 1/2 months after having an ST1100 for 8 years. It's a great bike and I'm looking forward to doing plenty of rides like the Boys Day Out.

Just reviving this thread in case there are lurkers who may have missed it. Date: Saturday 30 August. Departure/pick up points: 9:00am Macca's in Beaudesert; 10:00am Macca's Yamanto.
See you there
By Atlas on Friday, August 15, 2003 - 11:16 pm:
Hi David,
I must admit at having trouble finding this and the SOO thread...Got it noiw, but was lucky you had posted in 'last 3 days'
Cheers,
Atlas
By David1300 on Saturday, August 16, 2003 - 03:17 am:
Atlas - I always use the 'Last 3 days' option when checking posts, otherwise I also can't find what I'm looking for
Also, knowing this, I will keep both threads 'alive' by posting at least on the third day.
Another tip if you are looking for something specific - use the keyword search, and try and pick the most unusual word that you know appeared in the thread (like Urunga or Bellingen or Tenterfield). This usually works for me.
Or open the 'Touring Australia' topic heading, and scroll through the threads in that topic.
You can tell from the above that I spend far too much time looking for stuff here

Spoke to Phil (the Carbon Fibre Man from Geelong Carbon Craft) and he's hoping to make the ride as a person interested in FJR's

I am in.

By David1300 on Sunday, August 24, 2003 - 09:12 am:
I'll be there.
Leaving Nerang around 8,
leaving Macca's at Beaudesert at 9,
and leaving Yamanto Macca's at 10.
By Toowoomba on Sunday, August 24, 2003 - 09:49 am:
David,
Would like to turn up, but will be cutting out at Hampton, as I am coming down from Toowoomba to ride. Could you suggest a good pick-up point for me to join in?
Regards,
Toowooomba
By Atlas on Sunday, August 24, 2003 - 10:36 am:
Toowoomba,
Why dont you come my way (Plainlands) and we can go the back way to Beudesert and meet David there. We will back track a little I suspect, but who cares when you are on the bike. I know some good paths down that way.
You can email to confirm if you want and we can take it from there.
Cheers,
Atlas
By David1300 on Sunday, August 24, 2003 - 12:36 pm:
Tryg - If you can make Beaudesert by 9 that will be great. Otherwise we'll meet at the Yamanto Maccas at 10. These maps should help you find the Yamanto Maccas. The Maccas is in the carpark marked P on the first map:
This is a bigger view
Another option is to come past Amberley, then take the Ipswich-Boonah road, heading towards Boonah, then towards Beaudesert. We will be coming from Beaudesert, towards Boonah, then turning towards Ipswich, to get to Yamanto around 9:45 If you do this we'll meet each other coming the other way, and you can do a quick U-turn and join us.
By Lmoro on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 01:15 pm:
Guys,
At this stage I'll be coming on the ride on Saturday. I live at Bracken Ridge so I'll have to leave a little early.
Laurie
By David1300 on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 01:34 pm:
Laurie, will be great to meet you. According to my mapping it is 80k's from Bracken Ridge to Beaudesert, or 60k's B/Ridge to Yamanto, so chose whichever pickup point suits you. If you head to Yamanto, and get there early, head up the road to Boonah and intersect us coming the other way. Parts of this road are worth riding twice, or otherwise just grab a coffee at Maccas.
Remember that the departure times are 9 from Maccas Beaudesert (on the left just heading into Beaudesert from Browns Plains/Brisbane); and 10 from Maccas in Yamanto.
By Lmoro on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 - 01:10 pm:
David,
At this stage I'm going to head for Beaudesert. I'l start planning my route tomrrow night. Should be a good ride. It'll certainly tell me if I have to fit the risers I bought.

Guys,
I will be aiming for Beudesert as well, will mean doubling back, it is a nice ride down that way.
Cheers,
Atlas
By David1300 on Thursday, August 28, 2003 - 01:27 am:
Maccas at Beaudesert it is for the 9am group, but - Maccas is on the right as you come into Beaudesert along the Mt Lindesay Highway (not the left as I previously posted), around where the Beaudesert Station writing is on this map
When we leave Beaudesert we take the Boonah Road; and then turn right onto the Ipswich/Boonah Rd before we get to Boonah, heading north parallel to the Cunningham Highway.
The Maccas in Yamanto is just north of the intersection on the Ipswich/Boonah road and the Cunningham Highway, on the right (heading horth)
By David1300 on Thursday, August 28, 2003 - 06:45 am:
Here's my thoughts on the route for Saturday. It avoids the main highways as far as possible, specially the Warrego heading west. I haven't ridden any of the roads from Yamanto round to Esk, (except the 'must do' Murphy's Creek road up the range) so it's all new to me, and if there are better options that's great. I tried to print the sheet, but cannot get the maps to print, so I guess we'll have to commit them to memory

Hi All,
Had a great time today, really enjoyed the Toowoomba to Esk section... I think I have been on it before, but thought a good piece of it was dirt ??
Look forward to our next adventure.
Cheers,
Atlas

Had a great Boys Day Out today - picked up people at various meeting points along the way until all were together at Yamanto Maccas. Usual comparisons were made - who has what, from where, for how long, and how much did it cost. 5 FJR's and a 'ring in' GSX 1000
As the 'mericans know, you can get only one colour FJR - Silver. From left: Lmoro and his Jade Silver, Toowoomba and his Midnight silver, Atlas and his Cerulean Silver', Rod and his Maroon Silver, and David (inset) and his Midnight Silver.
Once again all the colours present and correct, sir
Moving out
Lunch stop:
An icecream is lunch, okay
Or maybe a pie
Definitely a pie
Followed by cheesecake

Note the shirt, Mr Joosman
Oh yes, we did ride some roads - for me a 510k day
Still desperately in need of rain around here
Tryg and his colour coordinated setup
And Laurie with his matching topbox
Killing bugs? - not me, officer
I really enjoyed the day. Thanks Rod and Tryg for leading us out west. Must do it agin sometime soon.

David,
thanks for taking the pics.. seems like youre taking the rinse too... I ate too much.. all pictographically displayed.. like a chubby bubby....
Really enjoyed the run.... but who could keep up with Rod..?!?!
Those roads were great... I am so glad that I installed the warp reactor last weekend...

A great day capped with great company and pictures. Thanks for the organisation. By the way I got home at around 3:45pm and had covered 504 kms. Pretty good for a day's outing I think.

Thanks for all your efforts to make this happen David, that was fun. I still made it home by 1:30pm but it was a bit quick down the range. Hope you guys were cautious on the road past Esk, saw a patrol car there, but we were cruising. Great pics, esp. Tryginator.
By Atlas on Monday, September 01, 2003 - 07:08 am:
David,
Where did you come up with the colours ??
Toowoomba and his Midnight silver ?? That is the stragest silver i have ever seen, I would have called it blue, and your black, but I have known to be wrong
ROD, happy to say I did not see the patrol car, though I expect it on that road on the w/e, catch all them boy racres on their way to Mt Glorious...
Cheers,
Atlas
By David1300 on Monday, September 01, 2003 - 08:30 am:
Whoops - it should be Toowoomba and his 'Ocean Silver'
or 'Sky Silver'
, and mine is the Midnight Silver. We can't make the 'mericans jealous by thinking we could get Red, or Blue, or Black, or something other than their 'Me-Too' Silver
I didn't see THAT patrol car, but did pass another one a little later the other side of Yamanto (I went home that way - via Yamanto and Beaudesert) who gave me a gentle finger-wave as I went by at 101 kph, and then later a plain car with a handheld radar in Beaudesert in the 50 zone - fortunatley his position was being highlighted by every passing motorist
By Atlas on Monday, September 01, 2003 - 10:41 am:
Ahhh,
I thought that was what you were doing... Well better not be buying too many police ball tickets....
If I could work out how to get triple MMM whilst I am riding I would know where they are hiding...they have updates every 15 mins on the radars. Good communtity service, slows people down without the ned to cost lots of $$$
Catch ya all later.
