I am in the process of installing Starcom's earphone plug. The Starcom plug will be in or near the helmet. Those of you that now use the in-ear speakers, how have you dealt with the cord length? Do you just store a ball of wound up cord, or order a short length. I am in the process of getting this done and want to do it right the first time. |

craig - our in-ear speaker cord length is: from earplug to where the two seperate cords come together: 33cm (13in); from where the two come together and run to the stereo plug: 10cm (4 in). Total length earplug to stereo jack: 43cm (17in). Why these lengths - that's just the way they were made when we described how we were going to use them My comments on using them: 1 - the short cords we have are great for plugging into the helmet jacks - no excess cord hanging in the breeze to get accidentally caught on anything 2 - the length is also perfect if I am riding solo using just my minidisk player. It reaches to the minidisk in my top left pocket just fine (maybe could be 5cm longer if I had a longer neck) 3 - if Zea wants to listen to something different to me (lectures on tape through her walkman) she needs to use an extension lead - she doesn't have a top left pocket like me that will comfortably take her walkman. This isn't a problem for her, she puts the excess cord in the same bum-bag she has the walkman in) 4 - if the cord was longer, I would just ensure it is tucked 'down my back', so a longer cord shouldn't present any problems If your plug-in jack is on/in your helmet then my suggestion is short cords. If you envisage using them alone connected to some other sound source, then consider longer, as above. |

David, Thanks to your information, I got ear impressions made in Cairns at a local audiologist and sent them to Phoenix. Got the plugs back just in time for a charity ride to Townsville (when we raised over $30,000 for the local hospital baby unit) The plugs are bloody excellent!! Very comfortable and massively improve the volume of my mini disc player. Many many thanks for the tip |

Autocom just announce availability of a helmet extendion cable which also allows the use of ear buds, custom earmold speakers, etc. any thing with a 3.5mm stereo jack. Cost is $46.00. This is good news for those with 7 pin headsets since the headsets had to be modifien to work with adapters that were cureently on the market. The autocom units accept standard off the shelf 3.5mm or 1/8th" plugs. Kieth |
